Getting hacked is no joke - but how does a company come back from something to terrible?

Did you know that 14 million businesses are at risk of being hacked in just the United States alone? Isn't that terrifying? Getting hacked is no longer just reserved for the multi-billion corporations and the everyday multi-millionaire. Being hacked is becoming almost commonplace for so many small businesses that it's become truly alarming. These nightmare disasters can be prevented, but sometimes the attacks come before protection can be put into place. What can you do to recover from these disasters and get back to work as normal?

First off, contact us. We are here to protect all of our clients and future clients from these horrible situations and provide 24/7/365 protection from any hacker attack. We will be there for you whenever this might happen and prevent it from actually happening. But if you have been attacked, or even if you just want the knowledge of what to do just in case - follow this helpful list of how to get back to business as quickly as possible.

   1.   Contain the Damage
  • Run an antivirus program
  • Reset all of your passwords
  • Remove any corrupted and compromised files

     2.    Alert Your Web Hosting Service
  • Give them all the information about the breach that you can
  • They will recommend what can be done to remove the malware and how to get your systems back up and running

     3.   Inform your customers
  • This has to be done by law. 47 of our states and Washington DC each has their own cyber laws that deal with these situations, so make yourself aware of what your state's policies are in times of disaster like this.
  • Provide each of your customers with a written explanation of what has happened, what's going on, and how you are working on fixing it. Do not hide this incident from them.
  • Let them know exactly what information was compromised and how this will affect them

     4.   Get Legal Advice
  • Know the up to date cyber laws for your state dealing with situations like this.
  • Depending on what industry your clients are in you may have a lot of other hoops to jump through and different ways you will have to deal with this situation. Be aware of your client's contracts and how they expect you to deal with this situation.
  • Think about getting insurance for times like this. This insurance will cover legal and forensic fees. It will cover expenses related to customer outreach and cover customer credit monitoring. It will also cover the costs of civil litigation and class action costs if it comes to this

     5.   Transparency
  • Make everyone aware of this situation that needs to know.
  • Be very open about the attacks to others in the industry so they know what to expect
  • Don't hide what has happened and continue to provide updates to your clients and customers

     6.   Start Again
  • Once you have started to put out fires, begin to rebuild your website and your reputation
  • Replace computer data, files, and apps with a clean backup
  • Keep updating your clientele the closer you get to getting back to business

     7.   Security
  • Obviously, the protection you had when you were attacked didn't work. It's time to update.
  • Didn't have actual security? Now it's time to spend the time and money to prevent this from ever happening again
  • Create layers of security to protect your information from now on

The amount of work it takes to clean up this damage can be very extensive. It is possible to recover from but can be very costly to your bank account and your reputation. Turn to Netcertpro to prevent anything like this from happening to you and your business. We are just a phone call away. Don't wait before it's too late!
